Who we are

Policy Playbook was created out of a simple but urgent truth: people in my community didn’t have access to the civic knowledge they needed to protect themselves, participate in government, or understand the systems that shaped their lives.

The idea began when I realized that even my own extended family and friends, people who had lived here for decades, didn’t fully understand their rights when it came to ICE, or how they could safely engage with government processes. It wasn’t due to a lack of care or interest. It was because no one had ever made that information clear, accessible, or available in their language.

That experience made something clear: civic knowledge isn’t equally distributed. And without access to it, entire communities are left vulnerable or shut out of the decisions that impact them most.

Policy Playbook is a youth-run, Los Angeles–founded nonprofit working to change that. We break down complex policies into plain, everyday language , through short videos, translated articles, and community-centered workshops. Our content is built for immigrant families, first-time voters, and anyone who’s ever felt like the system wasn’t made for them.

We believe understanding your rights and how your government works shouldn’t be difficult, and it definitely shouldn’t be a privilege. Our mission is to make civic knowledge accessible, multilingual, and empowering, so more people can participate with confidence and protect what matters most.
